EVENING PRIMROSE (OENOTHERA BIENNIS)

6.95

Beautiful, often overlooked medicinal.  Entire plant is useful. Edible leaves and roots, especially in the spring.  Flowering tops are a wonderful calming nervine and anti-spasmodic.  Seeds are rich in omega-6 fatty acids and are extremely beneficial for everything from proper immune function to chronic inflammation to women’s health issues and more. They can be ground up and added to smoothies, salads, etc, or just eaten alone.  Prefers poor, well-drained soil and full sun.  Drought tolerant. Considered a “pioneer” species, Evening Primrose can be found growing in recently disturbed and extremely thin soils- the kind to grow in the cracks of parking lots and sidewalks, slowly turning it back into soil. In the “earth healer” tribe of plants.  Readily self-seeds around the garden.  Flowers can reach 4-5 ft in height.  Herbacious biennial flowering in its second year.  Hardy to Zone 4.
