SWEETGRASS (HIEROCHLOE ODORATA)

8.95

Perennial aromatic grass species much used ceremonially by north american first nation peoples.  Traditionally woven into braids (do this while its fresh) and burned to release its vanilla-like, sweet aroma.  Spreads by runners around the garden so give it plenty of room.  Native stands are starting to show evidence of overharvest for commercial use, so if you use this plant consider growing your own!  Sweetgrass prefers rich, moist, slightly sandy soil and full sun, although it will do fine in regular garden soil. Very cold hardy found growing wild up to the arctic circle.  Hardy perennial to Zone 3.
