**To Watch
Spectacular spring flowers give way to edible “apples,” although this plant is not at all related to apple trees at all!  Umbrella-shaped leaves arrive in pairs on each plant with flower in the axil between them.  Northeast native that forms thick colonies in the wild.  Low-dose medicinal with a history of treating cancer.  Prefers part shade and moist soils, but can be grown in full sun and average garden soils.  Perennial to Zone 4.
